Cadillac will launch three electric vehicles this year to join the existing Lyriq and Celestiq, a prototype of which has just been spotted.

The prototype is for a mid-size three-row SUV that could eventually replace the gasoline-powered XT6. Cadillac has previously described the vehicle as a “global scale” product with an emphasis on space and cargo capacity.

The vehicle is heavily camouflaged, but design cues borrowed from the Lyriq are clearly visible, such as the lines of the front fascia, the vertical arrangement of the headlights and the beak-shaped sun visor that runs along the leading edge of the hood.

However, the back is different. Due to the need to fit the third row, the roof remains relatively flat, rather than sloping back like the Lyriq. From some angles, the car almost looks like a Range Rover Sport.

The interior design should also be similar to what we saw in the Lyriq. That means a clean, uncluttered dashboard with a large curved screen that integrates the digital gauge cluster and infotainment center. Part of the screen is visible in some shots.

Underpinning the vehicle should be parent company General Motors’ Ultium platform and battery technology set. Powertrain options should be similar to those offered in the Lyriq, meaning a battery with a capacity of around 100 kWh and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive. With all-wheel drive, peak output can hover around 500 horsepower.

Another of the three electric vehicles due this year will be a compact crossover, the prototype of which was spotted last summer. The third and final possibility is the Escalade-like model mentioned in the automaker’s future roadmap for Cadillac in 2020.

All three are due to enter production in 2024. The Celestiq flagship will be in production later this year.
