Recently, a woman had her handbag stolen after she unlocked her car at a petrol station in Cheras. The incident was captured in a dashcam video that has been widely circulated on social media.
In the 16-second video, we see the victim get back into the car, presumably after refueling. However, unbeknownst to her, a motorcyclist approached and waited near the front passenger door and when she opened it, he quickly opened the door and grabbed the handbag before fleeing with what appeared to be accomplices.
Realizing what was happening, the woman tried to stop the motorcyclist but failed and fell to the ground. After the incident, the Cheras Police District Police issued a statement stating that they were aware of the case and were investigating under Section 395 of the Penal Code.
Initial investigations revealed that the incident happened around 9am and the woman lost RM500. The police appealed to the public not to speculate and appealed to those with knowledge to provide clues.
This case is a good reminder to always be aware of our surroundings. You never know if a thief has set their sights on you, just waiting for the right moment to open your car and steal your belongings. Be vigilant and seek help from others if you feel like you’ve been “flagged.”
