With one in five MINIs sold in Europe being all-electric models, it was inevitable that MINI would increase the availability of its all-electric drivetrain to make it more than just a three-door hatchback. I’ve always thought that zero emissions would be right for a drop top MINI, and it seems someone in Munich agrees too, as the all-electric MINI Convertible is finally here, but only in 999 units and in two colours.
Specifications are firm for the new MINI Cooper SE Convertible (or MINI Electric Convertible), which is only available in Mystic Black and White Silver, with Resolute Bronze finish on the door handles, side windows and lamp shades. The 1 of 999 lettering on the side sill trims and side windows reminds you that you’re driving one of the 999 cars built for this generation.
An electric drivetrain accelerates it to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds, thanks to a 184-horsepower electric motor. The battery capacity is just enough for 201km on the WLTP cycle, but enough for a weekend trip to Genting while you enjoy the great outdoors.
While there are only 999 units globally, we wonder if any number will be allocated for the Malaysian market. It sure is a fun toy to own.
