Porsche has recalled certain versions of the Panamera hatchback and wagon due to a potential fire risk.

The recall covers the 2017-2021 model years Panamera and Panamera Sport Turismo, specifically the Panamera, Panamera 4, Panamera GTS, Panamera Turbo and Panamera Turbo S grades.

A total of 24,467 vehicles in the United States may be affected, according to the recall notice issued Jan. 27 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The problem is caused by the external coolant pump of the vehicle’s climate control system. In some cases, moisture may enter the pump and cause an electrical short, which in turn may lead to a fire.

The remedy requires the dealer to replace the coolant pump and check and replace the plug-in connections if necessary. The service will be provided free of charge.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed March 27, but anyone interested in more information can contact Porsche at 1-800-767-7243 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (see Recall Campaign number 23V033000).
