The Bugatti Centodieci is a tribute to the EB110 supercar of the 1990s, but one owner decided to go a step further by commissioning a one-off livery to match the EB110S that competed in the 1994 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The car was one of 10 customer cars built by Centodieci and sold to an American owner, Bugatti said in a Facebook post. The Centodieci is a special edition Chiron-based coach launched in 2019 to commemorate the original EB110, the car that helped Bugatti recover from its hiatus.

Launched in 1991 to coincide with the 110th birthday of Ettore Bugatti, the EB110 is the brainchild of Italian businessman Romano Artioli, a loyal follower of the brand. While it revived Bugatti and laid the groundwork for the brand’s acquisition by the Volkswagen Group that decade later, the EB110 was not a commercial success. Only 134 cars were built, but that included two racing cars.

Of the pair of factory-built Bugatti EB110 race cars, one was built for the Rolex 24 endurance race at Daytona, while the other was built for Le Mans. Officially known as the EB110 LM, the Le Mans-spec car wears racing number 34 and a patriotic livery (plus some sponsorship decals) in racing number 34 and French racing blue, reproduced here.

Bugatti has a rich racing heritage, but the EB110 lives up to it. The EB110 LM failed to finish in its only Le Mans race. The Daytona car didn’t fare much better, pulling out of that race after a $0.50 gearbox component broke. Bugatti declared bankruptcy in 1995, and while it’s thriving now, it’s unlikely to return to motorsport anytime soon.

Despite an $8.9 million price tag, Centodieci sold out when it was released in 2019. Customers will have to wait for Bugatti to complete development before they can get their hands on the car, though. The first Centodieci was delivered last June and the tenth and final car was delivered last month. Even in that small run, the racing-inspired Centodieci stood out.
