Getting a significant update in Malaysia this year is the 2023 Honda Wave Alpha, priced at RM5,179 excluding road tax, insurance and registration, and comes with a two-year or 20,000km warranty against manufacturing defects. The 2023 Wave Alpha will be available in three colors – Nightfall Blue, Lively Red and Clipper Yellow.
The biggest change for the upcoming Wave Alpha model is the addition of Honda’s PGM-Fi to the Euro 4 compliant SOHC 109.2 cc single cylinder engine. Power for the Wave Alpha is claimed to be 8.7 hp at 7,500 rpm and 8.7 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm, through a four-speed gearbox with centrifugal clutch.
According to Honda, the Wave Alpha recorded a fuel consumption figure of 1.41 liters per 100 kilometers according to the World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC) standard, while the carbureted Wave Alpha had a fuel consumption of 1.71 liters. At the same time, fuel capacity has increased from 3.7 liters in the previous model to the current 4.1 liters.

Under-seat storage has also been upgraded on the Wave Alpha, now at 7.3 liters, almost double that of the outgoing model. The Wave Alpha weighs 98kg and the seat height is set at 768mm off the ground.
For braking, the Wave Alpha is equipped with a hydraulic disc on the front mechanical drum brakes on the rear wheels, and the wheel size is 17 inches (cast alloy wheels only available), with tires sized 70/90 front and 80/ 90. Suspension is done by telescopic forks at the front, while the rear end is bolstered by preload-adjustable twin shock absorbers.
